Adventist Community Services meets people’s immediate needs through social services such as tutoring and mentoring programs on Sunday afternoons at 2pm, Youth Volunteer Corps, inner city missions on the 3rd Sabbath after morning service, and the Food Bank.

The LACC food bank is an outreach to our local community and church members.  It was established over 20 years ago and was for many, years directed by Br. Oliver Lawson at the former Mid-city Church.  When the Mid-City Church merged with the Los Angeles Central church, Br Lawson and the new Los Angeles Central City church (LACC) continued the food distribution at the current location.  Br. Lawson and many members; Myrtis Bernard, Eloise Perryman, and Lucille Brackett worked tirelessly with the food bank until their passing.  The new director Sister Geraldine Potter with the financial support of our church, many members and community volunteers, continues this outreach to the local neighborhood and those in need by following Psalms 41.

Our LACC food bank is a food pantry that provides a bag of groceries and a bag of vegetables.  We serve on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 12 noon till 2 PM. The need for food is so great that people start lining up outside of our church as early as 5AM in the morning for the noon opening.  We receive our food from The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank (LARFB) which is part of a national network for Feeding America.  Most of the food is free from Emergency Federal Assistance Program (EFAP) but sometimes due to limited quantities, LACC purchases some items at a very low cost from LARFB.  Because most of the food is EFAP the only requirement to receive food is to sign a government form that certifies that the client meets the income guidelines posted at our site.

Although we are unable to pass out literature, due to government regulations, our volunteers and clients realize that the church cares about them and that we are a church that honors the 4th commandment to remember the Sabbath day.
The Los Angeles Central City Church distributes food on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 12 noon until 2 PM.  For more information please contact Amabel Francisco.
